Label Studio import and export

Updated 23 October 2026

Drop in a Label Studio export and get a working campaign with the questions rebuilt. Export results back in Label Studio's task format.

Import

Paste or upload a JSON export from Label Studio. Azmaval reads the tasks, turns the data fields into columns, and rebuilds the questions from the annotations and predictions: choices, text areas, ratings, labels with relations, boxes, polygons, keypoints and segments. Existing annotations or predictions become pre-filled suggestions that reviewers confirm or change.

Export

Results export as Label Studio tasks with one annotation per reviewer, relations included, and a Label Studio labelling config in XML so you can open the data in Label Studio. The config is also available through the REST API at GET /v1/campaigns/:id/labelstudio-config.

What does not carry over

  • Brush masks, time series, audio waveform regions beyond segments, and custom HTML views have no equivalent here.
  • Label Studio's machine learning backend is not part of Azmaval. Model predictions arrive as columns, by file or through the API.
  • Annotator identities are replaced by per-project pseudonyms.

A migration path

  1. Export your tasks and annotations from Label Studio as JSON.
  2. Paste the file into Start from your data and check the preview.
  3. Create the campaign, invite reviewers or keep it private, and export results back when done.

Frequently asked questions

Can I use Azmaval and Label Studio together?

Yes. Export results as Label Studio JSON and load them into Label Studio, or the other way round.

Do I lose my existing annotations on import?

No. They become pre-filled suggestions, and reviewers confirm or correct them.
